Sometimes appetizers are the best part of going out to eat. Everyone loves hors d’oeuvre because they are cheaper, less filling and easier to share than entrees. Ordering a variety of great appetizers can be even better than getting a traditional main course.
The Smoky Mountain area has a wide selection of restaurants with delicious starters. We’ve compiled some suggestions for Gatlinburg restaurants with first rate appetizers.
Holston’s Kitchen
Located in Sevierville, Holston’s Kitchen has a killer appetizer selection. This casual dining restaurant offers traditional Southern favorites, including fried pickle chips and fried green tomatoes. In addition to these classic hors d’oeuvres, Holston’s also serves appetizers that could easily be a meal on their own, such as their char-grilled quesadillas or their sliders.
To get a taste of everything this restaurant has to offer, we recommend getting the Holston’s Sampler which includes onion rings, chicken tenders, quesadillas, buffalo chips, and fried green tomatoes.
Bennett’s Bar-B-Que
Unsurprisingly, Bennett’s BBQ’s best appetizers are its meatiest. While their famous hickory wings may look tiny, their small size actually makes them more flavorful after smoking. One of Bennett’s most unique offerings is their hogs legs. Made from the sweetest part of the pig, these center-cut pork shanks are incredibly tender.
In order to sample Bennett’s most popular meats, order the Wings, Drummies and Legs Combo. This special platter comes with two smoked drumsticks, eight chicken wings and two hog legs. It only takes one bite to see why Bennett’s BBQ is one of the most beloved Gatlinburg restaurants.
Calhoun’s Restaurant
With locations in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Knoxville and elsewhere, Calhoun’s is a staple of East Tennessee. The centerpiece of their appetizer menu is a selection of delectable chicken wings. Calhoun’s offers both original and boneless wings smothered in their signature Sweet & Spicy sauce. If you want to try a variety of sauces, they also offer Naked Wings for dipping in any of their five unique varieties.
If chicken wings aren’t your thing, we recommend the Rocky Top Potato Skins, which are loaded with hickory-smoked BBQ pork, cheese and bacon.
After sampling appetizers from some of the best Gatlinburg restaurants, you will want to retire to your luxurious room at the Inn On The River.
