November 1, 2011

From November 8, 2011 to February 26, 2012, the city of Pigeon Forge, in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, celebrates the Pigeon Forge Winterfest with entertainment, activities, delicious food and millions of energy efficient lights to create an enchanting wonderland for visitors from all over the country during the cold winter months.

In the mid 80s, Pigeon Forge’s city officials started with a few light displays and grew each year to the spectacular four month event they present today. The light shows get more fascinating each year and visitors can take a trolley where a guide to the city will point out not only all the light displays, but also the city’s historical landmarks and many shops that are participating in the fun by offering bargain prices for everyone.

Pigeon Forge Winterfest Kick-Off

The Pigeon Forge Winterfest kick-off event is in Patriot Park with live entertainment and music with guest appearances from local celebrities. It is a great show for the whole family and an excellent opportunity to bring the family to a hotel in Pigeon Forge for a short break or a full Christmas holiday. The lights and shows, hot cider and ginger cookies and extensive shopping possibilities offer a relaxing vacation in the middle of winter.

There is no more spectacular Christmas celebration than at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. With their own light displays and a nightly Lighted Christmas Parade as well as musical entertainment, it offers an event children will remember forever. Dollywood offers elaborate stage shows including Babes in Toyland with Simple Simon, Miss Muffett, Contrary Mary as well as Mr. Barnaby and Roderigo and Gonzorgo, determined to ruin the day. But with innovative puppetry and the spectacular scenery created by the artisans at Dollywood, no power on earth can ruin this day.

Pigeon Forge Winterfest Events and Activities

Throughout Pigeon Forge Winterfest, there is entertainment presented to captivate adults and amaze children. Comedy is a great feature of Pigeon Forge Winterfest; Elwood Smooch’s Ole Smoky Hoedown offers banjo music, gospel singing and one-liners that keep everyone laughing. There are even discount tickets available online.

The Black Bear Jamboree Dinner & Show is pure comedy. There is pre-show entertainment throughout the dinner and when the tables are cleared, the real fun begins. There are Wilderness Wildlife programs designed just for children to enjoy and learn through guided hikes, seminars with wildlife and plant experts as well as cultural programs about Smoky Mountain history, folklore and music. There is storytelling for the little ones to introduce them to the majesty of the outdoors.

On top of all this, there are fantastic costumes, a great musical beat, horsemanship expositions, mind-reading pigs, racing ostriches, jugglers, fire-eaters and one of the best Elvis impersonators in the country.
