While many visitors in Pigeon Forge tend to stick to all of the activities along the Parkway, they are missing some of the best attractions in town along Wears Valley Road! This scenic road starts less than a half mile from The Inn on the River and offers all kinds of fun things to do with your family! 1. Wear Farm City Park
The Wear Farm City Park is not only the main park for the City of Pigeon Forge, but a free attraction on Wears Valley Road where you can spend hours hiking, playing or just relaxing! This lovely park was completed in the spring of 2013 and features all types of wonderful facilities for your family to enjoy, like walking trails, playgrounds, and baseball and basketball courts. This is the perfect place to have a picnic lunch while surrounded by the beauty of the Smoky Mountains or to let your kids run off some of their youthful energy!
2. Goats on the Roof
Experience one of the most unique attractions on Wears Valley Road at Goats on the Roof! This popular attraction is impossible to miss as it is the only one in the Smokies that actually has goats wandering around on the rooftop! Once you step inside of the building, you will find a huge two-level gift shop with all types of wonderful Smoky Mountain souvenirs as well as an old time gem mine where you can search for rare gems like rubies, sapphires or emeralds. Don’t miss the opportunity to pedal the special goat-cycle where you can transport a can of goat chow up to the goats and watch them chow down on their favorite snack! As if this doesn’t all sound fun enough, step outside for a ride on the Coaster at Goats on the Roof. This thrilling mountain coaster features incredible views of the Smokies and can reach speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour!
3. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster
Another one of the top attractions on Wears Valley Road for family fun is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster! This incredible mountain coasters puts you into the driver’s seat as you control the speed of your own ride down the mountain! The track is over 1 mile long and takes between 7 to 8 minutes to complete, depending upon whether you are taking a leisurely ride down the mountain or racing at top speed! Don’t worry about any rain spoiling your fun because the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is open in the rain and even in the snow! While the ride vehicles are designed to comfortably carry two riders, you can easily handle the vehicles on your own. The height requirement to ride solo is 56 inches, but you can ride as a passenger if you are at least 38 inches tall.
